Đến Athènes vào buổi trưa, sau khi ăn cơm, tụi nầy có dịp tham quan khu phố cổ Plaka nằm dưới ngòn đồi Acropolis. Nơi nầy rất nhộn nhip và có rất nhiều đường phố đi bộ mua sắm và ăn uống. Khu Plaka được giới hạn một cách đại khái với khu vực Makrigianni ở phía nam, đền thờ thần Zeus Olympic (đang sùng tu lại) và vòng cung Hadrian ở phía đông, khu vực Syntagma và Ermou ở phía bắc và Monastiraki ở phía tây. Nơi nầy có nhà thờ chính thống công giáo của Athènes rất trang nghiêm và xinh đẹp.

En arrivant à la capitale Athènes dans l’après-midi, nous avons l’occasion de visiter l’ancien quartier Plaka situé au pied de la colline d’Acropolis. Ce lieu est très animé et a beaucoup de rues piétonnes remplies de boutiques et de restaurants. Le quartier Plaka est délimité d’une manière générale par la zone Makrigianni au sud, le temple Zeus (en cours de rénovation) et l’arc d’Hadrien à l’est, la zone Syntagma et Ermou au nord et Monastiraki à l’ouest . C’est ici qu’on trouve l’église orthodoxe cathédrale d’Athènes
La construction de la cathédrale commence le 25 décembre 1842 et ce sont le roi Othon Ier et la reine Amélie de Grèce qui en posent la première pierre. Lors des travaux, on utilise le marbre de soixante-douze églises démolies pour édifier les murs immenses du bâtiment. Trois architectes et vingt années sont nécessaires pour l’achever. Enfin, le 21 mai 1862, la cathédrale est dédiée à l’Annonciation par le roi Othon et son épouse.

FIRST DAY IN ATHENS.
Upon arriving in the capital Athens in the afternoon, we have the opportunity to visit the old Plaka neighborhood located at the foot of the Acropolis hill. This place is very lively and has many pedestrian streets filled with shops and restaurants. The Plaka neighborhood is generally bounded by the Makrigianni area to the south, the Temple of Zeus (under renovation) and Hadrian’s Arch to the east, the Syntagma and Ermou areas to the north and Monastiraki to the west . It is here that one finds the Orthodox cathedral church of Athens
The construction of the cathedral began on December 25, 1842, and it was King Otto I and Queen Amalia of Greece who laid the first stone. During the works, marble from seventy-two demolished churches was used to erect the immense walls of the building. Three architects and twenty years were required to complete it. Finally, on May 21, 1862, the cathedral was dedicated to the Annunciation by King Otto and his wife.
